Tom Marin, President
Tom Marin is the President of MarketCues, focused on planning and driving strategy shifts and strategic growth programs. His 30 years of experience include working for some of the world’s largest corporations and middle-market firms. A senior advisor and change-management consultant, he advises private, public and not-for-profit clients with high stakes strategies in a wide range of markets. Tom is the architect of the SmartPlan360™, a strategic planning program that he uses throughout his engagements. He is an accredited member of the national and international chapters of the Business Marketing Association, a past marketing chair of its Chicago chapter, and a certified business communicator. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in education and social science from Northern Illinois University.
Dr. Frederick Barber, Partner
Frederick Barber brings over 25 years’ experience in strategic leadership in the corporate world, combined with Board service in non-profits and faith-based organizations, to his role as a Partner with MarketCues. Prior to joining MarketCues, Dr. Barber served for 13 years with Meredith Corporation, an NYSE-listed media and marketing services company, where he was Chief Analytics Officer. He had previously been Executive Vice President of Austin-based Conclusive Strategies, and worked in international corporate consulting with Monitor Company. He is also an adjunct professor in the MBA and MSL programs at LeTourneau University. Fred holds a doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University. He has an MA from Georgetown University and a BA magna cum laude from Cornell University.
David Whitehead, Senior Advisor
David Whitehead is a Senior Advisor with MarketCues and works with churches across the country. He has over 34 years of ministerial experiences both as a church planter and on the teams of larger churches. David is the lead pastor of the Community of Grace in Manhattan, NY which he founded in 2007 and now has multiple communities throughout the city. David also serves as the Coaching Catalyst of Redeemer City to City, an organization serving gospel movements in global cities. In addition to Redeemer, David works as the Urban Specialist for Church Multiplication Ministries, a coaching organization that helps pastors start churches. David and his wife Kathleen live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with their 2 daughters.
Sarah Patterson, Senior Advisor
Sarah Patterson is a Senior Advisor of MarketCues who brings many years of strategic and analytic abilities to each of her client engagements. She is solutions-focused with deep professional experience in program and project management, strategic consulting and cross-functional collaboration. Sarah has worked for 10 years in various industries including financial services, technology and healthcare. She has solved complex problems in global companies spanning several functional areas and is known for “Seeing the Forest Through the Trees.” She’s proven this ability in her projects working with SAP, Fitch Ratings, and Control Risks, among many others. She serves national and international clients with a razor sharp focus based upon driving high value and growth throughout the organization. Sarah holds a Masters in Business Administration from University of Maryland and a Bachelor in Finance from the University of Florida.
Brian Miller, Ph.D., Research Director
Brian Miller serves as Research Director at MarketCues and works with a wide variety of clients. His background includes receiving a BS in physics from MIT and his Ph.D. in physics from Duke University. He has over a decade of experience consulting for both for-profit and non-profit businesses and for governmental projects. And, he provides a diverse range of organizations and churches with direction on strategic planning, organizational development, and outreach. In addition, Dr. Miller served as Academic Dean for a church-based Christian leadership development program. Dr. Miller also travels internationally lecturing on the intersection of science, faith, and society and on apologetics. Recently, he served as the technical consultant for the book God’s Not Dead, which shaped the movie of the same title.
Dr. Jeff Hale, Senior Advisor
Dr. Jeff Hale is a Senior Advisor with MarketCues. Extensive global experience in up to 50 countries with over 25 years in executive, operational and ministry leadership roles has led Jeff to focus his expertise to help clients achieve forward momentum with positive strategic direction in areas such as physical expansion, revenue growth, culture shifts, and leadership development. Having lived and worked internationally for over 20 years, Jeff is adept at cross-cultural organizational opportunities. Leading clients to stay on the cutting edge by creating meaningful work that is undergirded with care for people, Jeff is CEO of his own management consulting firm, WellSpirit Consulting Group, Inc. located in Chicago. Jeff earned his Master’s degree from the University of Illinois and holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University. He lives with his family in the greater Chicago area.
Dr. Renée Hale, Senior Advisor
Dr. Renée Hale is a Senior Advisor with MarketCues. With over 25 years of leadership experience in the United States and abroad, she serves as Lead Consultant at WellSpirit Consulting Group, Inc. located in Chicago. Renée has lived and worked internationally for nearly fifteen years, gaining cross-cultural expertise that enhances virtually every client experience. Her work in collaboration with business, government, fine arts, education and non-profit organizations provides a foundation of experience that guides clients to effective solutions across a diversity of organizations and industries. Renée leads clients to overcome barriers to strategic big-picture thinking, boosting employee engagement, and increasing productivity. She earned her Master’s degree from the University of Illinois and holds a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University. Renée lives with her family in the greater Chicago area.
Stephen Messner, Senior Advisor
Stephen Messner is a Senior Advisor of MarketCues with over 30 years of experience serving successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and nonprofit directors. He has worked with the top executives of organizations to help them define their personal and corporate goals, develop and implement plans to achieve them, and improve their profitability and operations, with a particular focus on strategic planning, financial planning and operations management. Some of his most recent work includes serving as the corporate development and strategic planning director of a leading security company; as the COO/CFO of a software start-up; as the finance lead in the restructuring and turnaround of a $17 MM building products retailer; and as the CFO of a $15 MM government contractor. He holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Harvard University in Applied Mathematics and an MBA from the Harvard Business School along with a Master’s degree in Robotics from MIT.
Denise Marin, Vice President
Denise Marin is the Business Manager of MarketCues, Inc. who provides financial and accounting management to the firm. Her career experience includes the Business Manager of a consulting firm in Chicago where she reengineered the firm’s financial systems that drove strategic growth and profitability. She was the Vice President and Controller of a medium-size advertising agency where she managed all financial systems and operations and created a Triple-A credit rating rivaling agencies much larger in size. Denise has received formal training and education in the areas of finance and management and has worked in the accounting area throughout her career.
